Shining a Light on Childhood Brain Cancer: Join the Armer Foundation for Kids in Raising Awareness

May 02, 2025 | Armer Foundation for Kids

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month, a time to come together to honor the brave children battling brain cancer, support their families, and raise critical awareness about this devastating disease. At the Armer Foundation for Kids, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of young warriors and driving progress toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Join us as we shine a light on childhood brain cancer and share how you can get involved.

Understanding Childhood Brain Cancer

Brain cancer is one of the most common and deadly forms of cancer in children, affecting thousands of families each year. Tumors in the brain or spinal cord can disrupt critical functions, leading to challenges in movement, cognition, and overall quality of life. Unlike many adult cancers, pediatric brain cancers are unique in their biology, requiring specialized research and treatments.

Some key facts about childhood brain cancer:

  • It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children under 19.
  • Over 4,000 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with brain tumors annually.
  • Survival rates vary widely depending on the tumor type, with some aggressive cancers having less than a 20% five-year survival rate.
  • Treatments like surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy often come with long-term side effects, impacting a child’s development and well-being.

Despite these challenges, the resilience of children and their families inspires us every day at the Armer Foundation for Kids. We believe that by raising awareness and funding innovative research, we can change these statistics and give kids a brighter future.

The Armer Foundation for Kids: Our Mission

Founded with a passion for helping children and families affected by brain cancer, the Armer Foundation for Kids is dedicated to:

  • Providing Family Support: Offering resources, emotional care, and financial assistance to families navigating a diagnosis.
  • Raising Awareness: Educating communities about the urgent need for action against childhood brain cancer.
  • Empowering Kids: Creating programs that celebrate the strength and spirit of young patients.

Our work is driven by the stories of courageous kids who face brain cancer with incredible bravery. Every step we take is in honor of them and their families.

Why Brain Cancer Awareness Matters

Awareness is the first step toward change. By spreading the word about childhood brain cancer, we can:

  • Increase Funding: More awareness leads to more donations for research and support programs.
  • Encourage Early Diagnosis: Educating parents and healthcare providers about symptoms can lead to earlier detection, improving outcomes.
  • Build Community: Awareness fosters solidarity, reminding families they are not alone in their fight.
  • Advocate for Change: A louder collective voice can push for policies that prioritize pediatric cancer research and care.

This May, we’re asking you to wear gray—the official color of brain cancer awareness—and share the message far and wide.

Stories of Hope: Meet Kyla and Miles

Our mission is fueled by the incredible children we serve. Here are two stories of young warriors who inspire us every day:

Kyla’s Courage

Kyla, a vibrant 8-year-old, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, medulloblastoma, last year. Despite undergoing intense treatments, she never stops smiling and dreaming of becoming an artist. Through the Armer Foundation for Kids, Kyla’s family received financial support for medical travel and connected with other families for emotional support. Today, Kyla’s artwork inspires our community, reminding us why we fight.

Miles’ Strength

Miles, a spirited 10-year-old, was diagnosed with a low-grade glioma after experiencing vision problems. Though surgery helped, he continues to face regular scans and therapy to manage his condition. An avid soccer fan, Miles stays positive by cheering for his favorite team and coaching his little brother from the sidelines. The Armer Foundation provided Miles’ family with resources to cover treatment costs and enrolled him in our “Dream Team” program, where kids connect through sports. Miles’ determination to keep playing and dreaming big motivates us to push for a cure.

Stories like Kyla’s and Miles’ fuel our determination to create a world where no child has to face brain cancer. Together, we can make that vision a reality.

Let’s Go Gray for Brain Cancer Awareness

The Armer Foundation for Kids is grateful for your support, whether it’s a donation, a shared post, or a kind word to a family in need.
